Bio-fertilizers
Bio-fertilizers are preparations containing living microorganisms which, when applied to seeds or soil, increase the availability of primary nutrients to the host plant. They act as biological "nutrient converters" that fix atmospheric nitrogen or solubilize soil minerals into forms that plants can easily absorb.
How It Works
- Nitrogen Fixation: Certain bacteria (like Rhizobium) live in the roots of pulses and convert atmospheric nitrogen gas into ammonia, a natural fertilizer.
- Phosphate Solubilization: Soil often contains phosphorus in "locked" insoluble forms. Bio-fertilizers like PSB (Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria) secrete organic acids that dissolve these minerals for plant use.
- Mycorrhizal Association: Fungi (like VAM) extend their ....
