Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs)
Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs) are emerging as a critical component of modern warfare amid the rising threat of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and low-cost aerial systems. India, through Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)-led indigenous research and development (R&D), aims to integrate laser-based and high-power microwave (HPM) weapons into a layered air defence system for rapid, precise, and cost-effective threat neutralisation.
About DEWs
Directed Energy Weapons (DEWs) are weapon systems that disable, damage, or destroy targets by directing concentrated energy, rather than using conventional ammunition. Major types include High Energy Lasers (HELs) and High-Power Microwaves (HPMs).
