Draft Pesticides Management Bill, 2025
On 7th January 2026, the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare released a fresh draft of Pesticide Management Bill, 2025, aimed at regulating everything from manufacture, import to sale and use of pesticides.
- It seeks to replace the present Insecticides Act, 1968 and the Insecticides Rules, 1971.
Why a new pesticides law is needed?
- Outdated Law: The Insecticides Act, 1968 is inadequate for present-day pesticides and risks.
- Health & Environment Risks: Weak regulation has led to unsafe, banned and substandard pesticides harming humans, livestock and ecosystems.
