Open RAN
Open RAN (Radio Access Network) is a movement in wireless telecommunications to disaggregate hardware and software, allowing different parts of a mobile network to be built by different vendors.
Key Concept
- Unlike traditional networks where one company provides all equipment, Open RAN uses standardized, "open" interfaces to ensure that equipment from Vendor A can talk to equipment from Vendor B.
Decoding Open RAN’s Working
- Disaggregation: It separates the RAN software from the hardware. This allows the software to run on generic, off-the-shelf servers instead of proprietary boxes.
- Standardized Interfaces: By using open standards (like those from the O-RAN Alliance), it ....
