Solar Tech: Types and Applications
Solar technology utilizes the sun’s energy through two primary methods: Photovoltaics (PV), which converts light directly into electricity, and Solar Thermal, which uses heat to generate power or provide heating.
Concept
- It is based on the ability of certain materials to release electrons when struck by light (Photoelectric Effect) or to absorb and concentrate heat for mechanical work.
Solar Tech: Types and Working
- Crystalline Silicon PV: This is the most common technology. Sunlight hits silicon cells, knocking electrons loose to create an electric current. It exists as Monocrystalline (high efficiency) and Polycrystalline (cost-effective).
- Thin-Film Solar: Uses layers of light-absorbing materials like ....
