Waste-to-Energy (WtE) refers to a variety of treatment technologies that generate energy in the form of electricity, heat, or transport fuels from municipal, industrial, or agricultural waste.

Core Concept

  • It utilizes thermal or biological processes to recover the latent energy stored in waste, significantly reducing the volume of refuse that would otherwise occupy landfills.

How the Technology Works

  • Incineration (Mass-Burn): Waste is burned at high temperatures (above 850°C) in a furnace. The resulting heat boils water to create steam, which drives a turbine to generate electricity.
