Dimethyl Ether (DME)-fueled Engine
Recently, researchers at IIT Kanpur developed a 100% DME-fuelled engine with a mechanical fuel injection system.

- Countries like Japan, USA, China, Sweden, Denmark, and Korea already use DME to power vehicles.
- DME-fuelled engines emit minimal particulate, soot, and smoke without costly exhaust gas treatments.
- DME can be a feasible alternative fuel for India's agricultural and transport sectors.
Properties
- High Cetane Number: DME exhibits high ignitibility in compression ignition engines.
- Physical State: At normal atmospheric conditions, DME is a colorless gas.
