Central Empowered Committee (CEC)

On 31st July 2025, the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) recommended the Supreme Court to approve the rationalisation of boundaries of the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan, including its critical tiger habitat.

  • CEC is a body constituted by the Supreme Court of India to assist in matters related to environmental conservation and forest protection, especially those arising under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
  • The CEC was constituted by the Supreme Court in 2002 in the case of T.N. Godavarman Thirumulpad v. Union of India.
