WMO verifies Record High Temperature for Antarctica
On 1st July, 2021, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) confirmed that on 6th February, 2020, the Esperanza station (Argentina’s research station in Trinity Peninsula) experienced a temperature of 18.3 degrees Celsius. This is a new record high temperature for Antarctica.
- Compared to the Arctic, the Antarctic is poorly covered in terms of continuous and sustained weather and climate observations and forecasts, even though both play an important role in driving climate and ocean patterns and sea-level rise.
