India Accounts for 27% of the Global TB Burden: WHO Report

On 17th October 2019, World Health Organisation (WHO) released the Global Tuberculosis Report 2019. The report provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic and progressin the response at global, regional and country levels for India.

Global Scenario

  • Globally, an estimated 10.0 million people fell ill with TB in 2018.
  • The highest burden of TB is in men (aged ≥15 years), who accounted for 57% of all TB cases in 2018 followed by women ( 32%) and children (aged< 15 years) at 11%.
  • Geographically, most TB cases in 2018 were in the WHO regions of South-East Asia ....
