China’s New Border Law: Signals for India
On 23rd October, 2021, China’s legislature passed a new border law for the “protection and exploitation of the country’s land border areas.
- The new law will come into effect from January 1, 2022.
- The law is not meant specifically for the border with India.
New Border Law: Key Highlights
- Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity: The new law asserts that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China are sacred and inviolable.
- It states that the state shall take measures to safeguard territorial integrity and land boundaries and guard against and combat any act that undermines territorial sovereignty and land boundaries.
