India to build Shahtoot dam in Afghanistan
Recently, at the Geneva Donors Conference on November 24, 2020, the External Minister of India proclaimed that India will construct the Shahtoot Dam across the River Maidan. River Maidan is a tributary of River Kabul in Afghanistan. The Shahtoot Dam is proposed to be built in the Chahar Asiab district near Kabul.
The bilateral negotiations to build the dam across the river began in 2016. In 2016, India had funded for the Salma dam (known as Afghan-India Friendship Dam) across Hari River (Herat province) of Afghanistan.
