Defence Pact: Japan and Australia
- Japan and Australia have signed a landmark defence deal on November 17, 2020 in an attempt to counter China's growing influence in the South China and Indo Pacific region. The deal is named as Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA).
Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA)
- RAA will allow Japanese and Australian troops to visit each other’s countries and conduct training and joint operations. The treaty will strengthen its security ties and facilitate cooperation between defence forces.
- RAA comes weeks after foreign ministers of the Quad alliance, which includes the US, Japan, Australia and India, met in Tokyo.
