Civil War in Ethiopian

The Ethiopian government has declared war on the country’s Tigray region, which is ruled by the powerful Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), in response to its attack on a federal military base in Tigray.The conflict escalated when Tigrayan forces in northern Ethiopia fired rockets across the border into Eritrea.

Background of the Conflict

  • Since 1991 after the military regime was ousted from power, the four-party coalition governed Ethiopia under which the country became more prosperous and stable, but concerns related to human rights and democracy were raised.
