On Tap Licenses for Banks
- On 15th April, 2021, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the names of applicants under the Guidelines for ‘on tap’ Licensing of Universal Banks and Small Finance Banks.
- The last time RBI handed out universal bank licenses was in 2014 when it allowed IDFC and Bandhan.
- This comes weeks after RBI set up an advisory panel, led by former deputy governor Shyamala Gopinath, to evaluate applications for universal and small finance banks, which are mandated to focus on priority sector lending and small loans.
