Otter Census in Uttar Pradesh
For the first time, Uttar Pradesh is taking a census of otters in its protected areas. The exercise that began in the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR), will be completed by the end of March.
Otters
- Otters are carnivorous mammals in the subfamily Lutrinae.
- The 13 extant otter species are all semiaquatic, aquatic or marine, with diets based on fish and invertebrates
- It is a mammal which spends much of its time in or close to water bodies. The den of an otter is known as Holt and it is close to water bodies.
