Mizoram passes Maintenance of Household Registers Bill, 2019
- On 19th March, 2019, Mizoram Assembly passed a bill that seeks to detect “illegal migrants” at the village and town level and bring in punitive measures for those making a false statement during the exercise.
Key Highlights of Bill
- A comprehensive database of residents will be maintained via individual identification system through which it will arrest the slippage of benefits of development schemes to those who are not entitled.
- The bill defines citizen as a person registered as such or having requisite qualification as prescribed under the Citizenship Act, 1955.
