10-year Sanitation Plan to Focus on Waste Management
The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) under Jal Shakti Ministry, launched a document on 10-year Rural Sanitation Strategy (ODF Plus), with focus on increasing access to solid and liquid waste management. It framework will be in place from 2019 to 2029.
Objectives
- To sustain the gains of open defecation free status of India by ensuring usage of toilets, Swachh Bharat (Gramin), to prevent slipbacks and continue behaviour change.
- It will focus on proper implementation of solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) — plastic waste, organic waste, grey water, and faecal sludge — in rural areas.
