Attorney General’s Nod to Contempt Proceedings against ‘YouTuber’
On 14th September, 20121, Attorney General of India agreed to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against a YouTuber for his alleged "scurrilous" remarks in one of his videos against the Supreme Court and its judges.
Consent for Contempt of Court
- Section 15 of Contempt of Courts Act, 1971 describes the procedure for contempt of court.
- In the case of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General (AG) or the Solicitor General, and in the case of High Courts, the Advocate General, may bring in a motion for initiating a case of criminal contempt.
