- On 24th August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the Gujarati poet, playwright, lexicographer and social reformer Narmadashankar Dave 'Narmad' on his 187th birth anniversary.
- Narmadashankar Dave ‘Narmad’ born on 24th August 1833 in Surat, Gujarat, was a visionary creator, philosopher, pioneer of social justice and a poet.
- The 19th century poet is considered to be the founder of modern Gujarati literature.His most popular work is the poem “Jai Jai Garavi Gujarat“ which is now the state anthem of Gujarat.
- He introduced his fearlessness and creativity through a magazine called 'Dandio'.
