Asteroid 2020 QG
- NASA was assigned the role to identify near-Earth asteroids (NEA). On 16th August 2020, it identified a tiny asteroid that passed 2,950 km above the southern Indian Ocean.
- The asteroid was nearly the size of an SUV car as it was roughly 10 to 20 feet across and according to NASA, it is the closest known non-impacting asteroid.
- The asteroid came closer because the Earth’s gravity bends its trajectory and according to NASA this asteroid got turned by 45 degrees or so as it swung by Earth.
Significance
- It’s quite an accomplishment to find these tiny close-in asteroids in the first place ....
