National Handloom Day

  • The 6th National Handloom Day was celebrated on 7th August, 2020, to honour the handloom community, and acknowledge their contribution towards India’s socio-economic development.
  • The first National Handloom Day was organised in 2015 by the government in Chennai.
  • This day seeks to highlight the contribution of handloom to the socioeconomic development of the country and increase income of the weavers.

Reason to Choose 7th August

  • The Union government had declared 7th August as the National Handloom Day in July 2015 with the objective to generate awareness about the importance of handloom industry.
