Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Act 2021
On 2nd August, 2021, the Delhi High Court allowed the medical termination of pregnancy of a woman who had completed 22 weeks of gestation period on account of suffering from multiple abnormalities.
- The woman, in her plea, had sought permission for abortion as her twin foetus suffered from 'dandy walker malformation', a rare congenital brain abnormality.
- However, Section 3 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act does not permit termination of pregnancy in case the period of gestation is more than 20 weeks.
