Eco-sensitive Zone of Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary Notified
On 25th August, 2021, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, notified the eco-sensitive zone of the Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary which is situated in Assam.
- The notification specified an area to an extent varying from 294 metres to 16.32 kms as the eco-sensitive zone, with the total area being 148.9 sq. kms.
About Deepor Beel
- Deepor Beel is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Assam and the State’s only Ramsar site listed since November 2002.
- An Important Bird Area (IBA), it is situated to the south-west of Guwahati city, in Kamrup district of Assam.
