Odisha Plans DNA Profiling of Leopards
On 29th July, 2021, the Odisha Wildlife Organisation under the state’s Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department announced that it will do DNA profiling of the leopards in the state.
- The deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) profiling will be done in collaboration with the Centre for Wildlife Health (CWH) of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar.
- The task will involve identification of forest areas where leopards are spotted, recording of leopard pug marks and collection of faeces. The samples will then be sent for DNA profiling.
