Recently, a political party from Punjab decided move an adjournment motion in the Parliament seeking repeal of the contentious laws.
About Adjournment Motion
- Adjournment Motion is the procedure for adjournment of the business of the House for the purpose of discussing a definite matter of urgent public importance, which can be moved with the consent of the Speaker.
- It is introduced only in the Lok Sabha.
- As it involves an element of censure against the union government, it is introduced in the Lok Sabha and not Rajya Sabha.
- It needs the support of fifty members.
