China-led South Asian Initiative
Recently, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh said that India can join, if it so desires, the China-led South Asian initiative for COVID-19 vaccines and poverty alleviation.
- A meeting of the Foreign Ministers of China, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in April preceded the decision to create the China-South Asian Countries Emergency Supplies Reserve, and a Poverty Alleviation and Cooperative Development Centre set up in China on 8th July, 2021.
- India, Bhutan and the Maldives are not part of this initiative.
