The Rise Of Regional States - Awadh
Saadat Khan Burhaan-ul-Mulk (1722-39)
- Founded the autonomous Awadh state in 1722.
- Appointed as the governor of Awadh by Emperor Muhammad Shah.
- Was the leading member of the Irani party in the imperial court.
- Through his military reforms he made Awadh economically and politically strong.
- Treated Hindus and Muslims equally in the matter of employment.
- Asafzah Nizam-ul-Mulk (the leader of Turani party) was his rival in the Mughal court.
- Played a crucial role in the imperial affairs during the invasion of Nadir Shah, and committed suicide in 1739, to save his name and honour.
