EIU’s Democracy Index 2021
Recently, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) released the Democracy Index, 2021. The report reflects the continuing negative impact of COVID-19 on democracy and freedom around the world for a second successive year.
- The report finds that democracy experienced its biggest annual decline since 2010, when the global financial crash led to major setbacks.
Key Findings
- Top Performers: Norway topped the index. It has been classified as a full democracy. Norway was followed by New Zealand and Finland in the second and third spots respectively.
- Bottom Spot: Afghanistan occupied the last spot in the report.
