Government sets up Panel on Digital Competition Law
On 7th February, 2023, the government constituted a 16-member inter-ministerial committee to examine the need for a separate law on competition in digital markets.
- The panel will be headed by Manoj Govil, secretary in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
Need
- The move comes amid increased regulatory antitrust-related scrutiny over big tech companies like Google, which last year was fined by the Competition Commission of India in two separate instances for allegedly abusing its market dominance in the Android mobile device ecosystem, and the app store market.
