FCI's Role in Storage, Distribution and Transportation of Food Grains
- The Government of India distributes free food grains under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) to approximately 81.35 crore individuals identified as per the guidelines of the National Food Security Act, 2013 across the country.
- Similarly, 8.93 crore people have been covered under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and 35 kg of free food grains per family is given.
- Procurement (especially wheat and paddy) at Minimum Support Price (MSP) by the Indian Food Corporation (IFC) and associated state government agencies is known as Central Pool Procurement.
