Shaping Sustainable Food Systems with Storage Infrastructure
- According to government data, about 31 lakh tonnes of food grains are produced in a year, due to limited capacity of the present warehouse, only 47% of the total produce can be preserved.
- On May 31, 2023, the world's largest grain storage scheme in the cooperative sector was approved by the Cabinet under the leadership of the Indian Prime Minister.
- Under this scheme, various types of agricultural infrastructure like warehouses, custom hiring centres, processing units, fair price shops etc. will be created by convergence of various schemes of Government of India at PACS level.
