​Fishery Survey of India (FSI)

  • On 11th February 2025, a team of scientists from the Fishery Survey of India (FSI) discovered new fishing grounds deep from Kollam in Kerala to Goa.
  • The newly discovered fishing grounds, located approximately 100-120 nautical miles off India’s western coast, boast of an impressive average catch per unit effort (CPUE) of 150-300kg/hr.
  • The FSI, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, is the nodal fishery institute in India established in 1946.
  • Its primary responsibility is to survey and assessment of fishery resources in the Indian exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and adjoining areas for their optimum utilization and sustainable development.
