Bharat Taxi: India’s First Cooperative-based Taxi Service
On 5th February 2026 Union Home and Cooperation Minister launched India’s first cooperative-based ride-hailing platform, Bharat Taxi, in New Delhi.
What is Bharat Taxi?
- Cooperative-led Ride Platform: It is India’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002.
- Aim: To promote inclusive, citizen-centric mobility by empowering drivers through cooperative ownership, ensuring fair income distribution, social security, and freedom from exploitative commission-based platforms.
Key Features
- Driver-owned Model: Following the principle of “Sarathi hi Malik”, drivers are shareholders and active decision-makers.
- Zero-Commission & Surge-Free Pricing: Entire fare initially goes to drivers; profits are redistributed within the cooperative.
