Soundala Village, Maharashtra
On 5th February 2026, Soundala village in Ahilyanagar district declared itself Maharashtra’s first “caste-free” village through a unanimous Gram Sabha resolution.
- The resolution promotes equality under the motto “Aamchi jaat… manav” (“my caste is humanity”).
- Villagers collectively renounced caste-based discrimination and social exclusion.
- The decision was supported by residents across diverse social backgrounds.
- Equal access to public spaces has been formally assured.
- Schools, temples and water bodies are open to all residents.
- Community halls and cremation grounds will follow non-discriminatory access.
- Government services in the village will operate without caste ....
