The Industrial Relations Code (Amendment) Act, 2026
On 16th February 2026, the Industrial Relations Code (Amendment) Bill 2026, received the Presidential assent.
- The Act amends the Industrial Relations Code, 2020 and provides clarity regarding the repeal and transition framework of legacy labour laws.
Major Amendments
Repeal of Three Labour Laws
- The following enactments stand repealed from the notified date:
- Trade Unions Act, 1926
- Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946
- Industrial Disputes Act, 1947
- This step completes the consolidation of these 3 central labour laws under the Industrial Relations Code framework.
Continuity of Tribunals and Authorities
- A significant addition is sub-section (1A), which ensures continuity and prevents administrative disruption.
