Guidelines for Advertisements 2022
On 10th June, 2022, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) notified ‘Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements for Misleading Advertisements, 2022’.
- The Guidelines apply to advertisements published on all platforms including print, television, and digital platforms.
Objective
- To curb misleading advertisements and protect the consumers, who may be exploited or affected by such advertisements.

The Guidelines deal with the following issues:
- General principles to ascertain what is a misleading advertisement
- Conditions for bait advertisements
- Prohibition of surrogate advertising
- Guidelines for free claim advertisements
- Conditions for advertisements targeting children or featuring children
- Rules on disclaimers in advertisements
