Horizontal Reservation for Transgender Community
On 13th June, 2023, the Maharashtra government informed the Bombay High Court that it would be difficult to provide separate reservation for transgender persons in education and government jobs.
- It is to be noted that trans-persons in India have been fighting for the right to horizontal reservation for a long time.
About Horizontal Reservation
- Reservation in education and employment can be divided into two broad categories, namely, vertical and horizontal.
- Horizontal reservation, on the other hand, cuts across all vertical groups to provide affirmative policies for disadvantaged groups within categories.
