India Elected to UN ECOSOC for 2026–28 Term
On 5th June 2025, India was elected to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the 2026–2028 term.
What is ECOSOC?
- ECOSOC stands for the Economic and Social Council, one of the six main organs of the United Nations, created in 1945.
- It focuses on three key areas of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental.
- ECOSOC is the central platform for debate and coordination on global development issues.
- It also monitors and follows up on outcomes of major UN summits and conferences.
