Operation Spider’s Web
On 1st June, 2025, Ukraine announced the successful execution of Operation Spider’s Web, a stealth mission targeting deep Russian airbases using explosive-laden drones.
- It is a covert operation by Ukraine’s Secret Service (SBU), involving months of planning to strike multiple high-value Russian airbases using short-range drones smuggled in disguised containers.
- 117 drones were used across three Russian time zones, striking airfields as far as Irkutsk, Murmansk, Ryazan, and Ivanovo, causing destruction to 41 warplanes, including A-50s and nuclear-capable bombers like Tu-95s and Tu-160s.
