UN80 Initiative
On 23rd June, 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, the UN80 Initiative was spotlighted by the Under-Secretary-General for Policy to drive institutional reform across the UN system.
- The initiative aims to restore trust in multilateralism and modernise the UN, amid rising geopolitical tensions, global inequalities, and climate and tech disruptions.
- It is structured around three core workstreams: improving operational efficiency, reviewing 4,000+ mandates issued by Member States, and considering structural and programme-level realignment across the system.
- Seven thematic clusters—covering peace and security, development, human rights, humanitarian action, training, and agencies—have been formed under a UN80 Task Force, ....
