UNCCD: 16th Conference of Parties (CoP16)
The 16th Conference of Parties (CoP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was held from December 2 to 13, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This was the first UNCCD CoP hosted in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, focusing on land degradation, desertification, and drought resilience.
Key Outcomes of the Conference
- The draft of the Global Drought Framework made significant progress, with its finalization scheduled for CoP17 in Mongolia in 2026.
- Under the Riyadh Drought Resilience Partnership, a total of USD 12.15 billion was pledged to support global drought response efforts.
