Dengue Vaccines and Antibody-Dependent Enhancement (ADE)

On 8th June 2026, Brazil suspended the use of the Butantan-DV dengue vaccine after adverse events were reported during its dengue vaccination campaign.

  • The incident has raised concerns for India, as DengiAll, India's upcoming dengue vaccine developed by Panacea Biotec, is based on a similar vaccine platform.
  • Both Butantan-DV and DengiAll are live-attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccines, designed to provide protection against all four dengue virus serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4).
