Mission SenehJori Launched in Assam
On 2nd June 2026, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) launched Mission Senehjori in Assam.
What is Mission Senehjori?
- It is a comprehensive, cluster-based textile initiative designed to transform the Muga silk sector, found exclusively in Assam, into a globally competitive luxury ecosystem.
Aim
- To position Muga silk as a traceable, high-end global commodity while preserving Assam’s cultural heritage.
Rationale
- Assam accounts for 90 percent of the world’s Muga silk production.
- Despite the extraordinary effort of farmers and entrepreneurs, producers today earn only Rs. 18,000–21,000 per year from Muga silk, and that Mission Senehjori is designed to decisively ....
