States Sign Reform-Linked MoUs under JJM 2.0
On 10th June 2026, as a remarkable step towards sustainable, assured, and citizen-centric rural drinking water supply across India, reform-linked Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed today under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 with two States - Manipur and Bihar.
Mandates of MoU
Gram Panchayat-led Rural Water Governance
- Promotes a Gram Panchayat-led approach to rural water management.
- Strengthens the role of local self-governments in planning, implementation, and monitoring of water supply services.
Service-based and Community-centred Model
- Emphasises a service-oriented delivery framework rather than mere infrastructure creation.
- Encourages active community participation (Jan Bhagidari) in the management and sustainability of water supply systems.
