Kolam Tribe
In October 2025, in a move aimed at restoring livelihoods of Kolam tribal people, the Green India Challenge (GIC), a nationwide environmental movement, launched a pilot bamboo plantation project in Mullagutta village in Adilabad district (Telangana).
Objective
- To combat environmental degradation while empowering Kolam tribes.
- To address the acute bamboo shortage faced by the Kolam tribes due to restricted access to natural bamboo resources in the forests.
Socio-economic Significance
- Economic Resilience: The bamboo initiative will help to improve the economic resilience of the Kolam tribe by integrating traditional knowledge with modern sustainability practices.
