Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty
- Recently, Assam Chief Minister announced that the Centre has formally invoked the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore in connection with the death of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg.
- The invocation of the MLAT follows a request by the Assam Government submitted on September 29, 2025, to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
- The MLAT is a formal agreement between countries that enables cooperation in criminal investigations, including sharing evidence, case details, and legal assistance.
