- The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) celebrated the centenary of its establishment on October 1, 2025.
- The concept of a merit-based modern civil service in India was introduced following the 1854 report of the British Parliamentary Committee chaired by Lord Macaulay.
- Accordingly, the Civil Service Commission was established in London in 1854, and competitive examinations began in 1855.
