Centre Urges Odisha to Implement PM-USHA Scheme

Recently, the Union Education Minister urged the Odisha Chief Minister to implement the PM-USHA scheme for higher education in the state.

About PM-USHA Scheme

  • It was launched in June 2023, replacing the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. It covers government and government-aided institutions of the States and UTs.

Objectives

  • Creating new academic institutions;
  • Expanding and upgrading the existing ones; and
  • Developing institutions that are self-reliant in terms of quality education, professionally managed, and characterised by a greater inclination towards research.

Focus Areas

  • Equity, access and inclusion in higher education;
  • Developing quality teaching & learning processes;
  • Accreditation of non-accredited institutions and improving accreditation;
