EU Reaches Agreement on Overhaul of Migration Laws
On 20th December, 2023, EU countries and lawmakers reached an agreement on a comprehensive reform of asylum and migration laws, targeting accelerated vetting, border detention centres, and a solidarity mechanism to ease pressure on countries with high migrant inflows.
- Spain, holding the EU presidency, announced a political agreement on all five files of the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, with European Commission Vice President highlighting the significance of Europe's commitment to addressing migration challenges.
